    Sold the car

It's time for me to leave the forum. We have sold the i3 and gone back to a 1.0 petrol driven town car in order to remove the 'cost to repair' anxiety issues we had during ownership of the i3 after the end of the manufacturers warranty. Best wishes to all and thanks for the communication and...

    Alloys paint blistering

Update. I stuck to my guns and complained. After a further inspection it was deemed that the blistering paint was caused by the fitting of the TPMS valves. Having date checked the tyres etc, they agreed to provide new rims because no replacement valves had been fitted and the tyres on two of the...

    Alloys paint blistering

UK user... The car is just approaching 3 years of age. Two of the 427 style alloys are starting to blister very close to the TPMS valves. Not large blisters, but it has started. When it went in for its end of warranty check yesterday, I highlighted these blisters and the dealer said it was...

    Battery maintenance

I fully accept the OP mentions his car is a 120a. Ours is a 94a REX and during the lockdown, the message popped up that the REX could not/did not do its maintenance cycle and an amber warning popped up. We couldn't go out and about and the car's charge was at 95%, so I ended up taking it out for...

    Tyre valve seal

Very interesting. The guys at Costco had a tool they used, (it was obviously the item you were talking about), when asked what they were doing pointing this at the car, they said they're checking the TPMS sensor was talking to the car before they did the tyre change and they did it again...

    Tyre valve seal

Further to your comment, I wonder what the life expectancy of the tyre valve is. I assume the valve contains a battery, if so, surely it must have a life span? Does anyone know what happens when the battery starts to fail, what message can the owner expect to see on the car's display?

    Tyre valve seal

An interesting reply jadnashuanh, thank you. When I am next in Costco, I will mention your information to their tyre bay staff. I will let them research if the UK/Europe has the same standards as the USA. I know it is normal practise to replace a standard valve when fitting a new tyre. Even...

    Tyre valve seal

Just something to be aware of. I recently, (6 months ago), I had a couple of tyres fitted to the rear axle of the car by Costco. The first set since the car was bought with the tyres fitted from new. Over the last couple of months the warning message came up that pressure had dropped on one of...

    Junkyard Wheel, Wrong Size! :(

Somewhere on the forum is a thread I posted about having a spare wheel. In short, the front rims can be put on the rear but the rear rims can't go on the front. Front rims on the rear are ok as long as the tyre fitted on the rim is the correct load rating. Also check the rotation, the tyres are...

    Rubber trunk mat

I have found the moulded plastic come rubber boot liner from my wife's previous car, a Toyota Yaris MY 2015, fits almost perfectly. Nice lip around it to catch any spillages God forbid.

Replacement REX - BMW dealer quoted £10k for repair

You have a very good point there tliet. However, I'm starting to think there is something about this thread that I find a bit odd. No updates from the OP since the post, which was placed on the day of joining the forum. Call me whatever, but I'm starting to wonder if this is a genuine...

Replacement REX - BMW dealer quoted £10k for repair

Slymp, can I ask, how much use did your REX get? I'm interested to know what may have caused this, excess or under use? What was the odometer reading on your i3 when it failed?

Replacement REX - BMW dealer quoted £10k for repair

Here in the UK the MOT, (annual ministry check), changes almost yearly. I understand that now, some warning lights constitute a failure. I imagine the failure of the REX produces a warning message. Would such a message constitute a failure? I read that the owner in the USA continued to use his...

Replacement REX - BMW dealer quoted £10k for repair

A very good almost new 'used' car selling at a main dealership can be bought for around £26k. How can BMW justify a £10k repair bill on that one component? It is truly unreal, irrespective of the chance of it happening. If someone has done a mod' then that is down to them and they face the...

Replacement REX - BMW dealer quoted £10k for repair

Blimey!!! What happened? Did an error come up? Did it explode? Is the car useable or does it simply stop? We have the same car and events like this are very worrying. So do we get rid before our warranty expires or do we pay for an extended warranty (at what cost?) One thing is for sure, we...

    Spare tyre option

Update for any users who may be interested...... Having liaised with BMW UK they state that the 155's can be used all round on my car. (I gave them the VIN number so there could be no confusion.) BUT, having been asked specifically about the different load rating for the tyres on the rear axle...

    Spare tyre option

Quote, ' See what your owner's manual says, as it should list acceptable tire choices.'. No it doesn't. Pages 202 to 213 inclusive only mentions the speed rating, it does mention only using snow chains on 155 size tyres. It loves referring the reader to getting information from a Service...

    Spare tyre option

So if a user was to fit 155 tyres all round on a 94aH car, as long as the tyre load rating matches or exceeds that of the 175 Ecopia, all should be fine. I note the Blizzak winter tyres that seem to be available have a load rating 84 and the Ecopia 175's have 86, a difference of 30kg each tyre...

    Spare tyre option

Isn't it great getting all of this information from others! While I'm on a roll I may as well post the question, if the diameter is such a small difference between the 155's and the 175's on the car, why were they fitted by BMW in the first place? Is it because of the surface contact patch...

    Spare tyre option

Thanks for all the responses. I still don't know whether to buy just one front tyre and keep it as a spare for any position on the car or whether to buy a rear axle specific rim as well. They seem to be harder to get hold of.
