myBMW App Works, But Not Showing Charge / Charging Status...

For the past few days the myBMW app is not updating my state of charge (stuck at 56%), is not showing the main-screen graphic where the car is plugged in an charging, and in fact when I click on the CHARGING line in the blue box, is shows "Charging Plan: Unplugged." However, it is updating...

Last i3 Sold in the US...

I'm betting many of you have seen the headline as a few auto publications are popping up with this in my news feed. No details yet on where it was sold, what model, and what the circumstances were, but I half expect those details will emerge. Is my recollection correct that a service loaner...

Replace Rear Pads warning in app @ 30k miles... (???)

Well golly this is unexpected. I received this notification on the MyBMW app just a few weeks ahead of reaching 30,000 miles. This doesn't make any sense. I don't think I use my brakes enough. I drove my 1st i3 to 50,000 miles and never had any brake issues / warnings.

Anybody Following David Tracy's i3 Saga?

Auto journalist David Tracy of The Autopian formerly of Jalopnik bought an i3 -- an old and extremely high mileage i3 -- and has been posting a series of stories leading up to it and now post-purchase. If you don't know David, he usually buys rusty junk and gets it running. A few years ago he...

Odd Exterior "Burnt" Odor assc. w/ 12v Batt or Heater / Precon...

So to cut the quick, my '21 was producing an exterior odor I associate with a burned soup pot (like from my restaurant days, when the double boiler ran dry of water). BMW changed the 12 volt battery and so far the problem is gone. Of course, the details: I noticed this odor after the car...

    Carvana Mis-Listed my i3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well dang... as many of you read I sold my car to Carvana last week, but only after some interior parts swaps. I filled out Carvana's checklist carefully to note the seats were cloth, not leather, the wheels were 20", not 19", and the dash trim was not wood. They offered me a lower price...

    Missing Menus; Corrupt Software?

So here's a weird one for you all to diagnose. 2021 i3, showroom new with all of 20 miles on it, tech package (for what it's worth -- I don't think it's a factor in this problem I'm having). Under the Vehicles menu, the Doors sub menu is missing (where I'd select to turn off the "beep when...

    '17 > '21 Seat Swap Airbag Error...

I've removed all the leather seats from my 2017, and installed the driver's seat into the 2021, and the car threw a restraint error with the airbag light on. Searching the web, I see on the f30 forums similar errors reported with other BMW models. I'll surprised though — they're taking about...

2017 to 2021 changes, peeves addressed (cruise, mute)...

Having recently picked up a 2021 i3 after two years driving a 2017, I went in knowing the obvious changes — larger battery, iDrive 6, improved high beam headlights, and much improved traction control (manifests as no regen drop-out on rough surfaces. But there were a few unexpecteds that...

    1700 miles in 48 hours -- 120 Ah BEV...

Google Photos link to album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/cCz9quh3hRsgKngh8 Well, I done did it, I bought a new i3. But getting it home to Oakland from San Antonio was an effort. (a) cheapskate (b) impatient (c) up for a challenge, ABRP gave my plan a (mostly) thumbs up, so I decided to wing it...

    Swapping 2017 / 2021 Leather Interior / Oak Trim?

Let's say, hypothetically, an i3 owner were to find a replacement i3, but with a less desirable interior. Any speculation on how involved an interior swap would be? Not just seats and armrests, which ought to be straight forward enough, but the trim bordering the dash. Edit post swap photos...

    i3 Looks Like Dig Dug...

I recently spotted a neighbor who has a sweet midnight blue 1968 Pontiac GTO hidden in his garage, and I've dropped a couple compliments when walking by. I pulled up next to him on the street and we were briefly chatting through the windows. I guess he felt the need to reciprocate. He says...

Detached Garage EVSE Installation for On-Street Parking...

I've previously posted about charging mainly at 120 volts (https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16598) and this is still my primary MO for the i3. However having recently added a Volkswagen ID.4 to the household, it was time for a dedicated L2 installation, something I've been putting...

    Mazda's Answer to the i3?

Jalopnik published a drive report of the Japan-market Mazda MX-30. I sounds as if it's destined for the US later this year, or at least for California. Linkey >> https://jalopnik.com/mazdas-funky-mx-30-ev-is-high-style-high-price-low-ra-1847003108 It's seems short sighted that this late in the...

Android my BMW App Now Available in Play Store

Keeping the i3, Bought an ID.4...

I bought a Volkswagen ID.4 about a week ago, as my wife's primary driver. It's an interesting take on the i3. Like the i3, the ID.4 is rear wheel drive (there's an AWD version coming this summer). As such, it lacks the torque steer that turned me off from buying a Kia eNiro. It also shares a...

Left Aspherical Mirror Part # Differ in LH- / RH-Drive Markets?

I installed a pair of genuine BMW euro-spec aspherical side view mirrors on my i3. I am taken aback by how disorienting the driver side mirror is. Don't get me wrong, it's something I'm adapting to and I appreciate the wider field of visibility, which is the reason I purchased these. But...

    New EV Google Maps Features...

According to the Google Blog (http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/MKuf/~3/mpMDQgn5N_c/) we've got some EV friendly updates coming: 1. Long distance route planning that takes charging speed into consideration for calculating total time 2. Search charging stops based on amenities such as...

Are The i3's "Dynamic" Range Calculation Unique?

Is the way the i3 revises estimated range based on the destination plugged in to navigation a feature only found in BMWs? Is this not common in other brand's EVs? A little back story: I've had my eye on the Polestar 2 to replace my wife's car. A few days ago, this video popped up...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

Leaving work last night, 47° outside, 100% charged with the Level 1 EVSE still connected, and pre-conditioning / climitazation all set up just like it is every night. Only this time, freezing cold car, and the heat never came on during the 20+ minute drive home. I mention it's the BEV because...
