    BEV No Heat, Again...

the BMW heat pump compressor is pretty reliable. The Tesla compressor is not any better. Many had them replaced as well. The i3 HVAC system is pretty well designed and actually fairly simple. Not a weird mess like in the i4 or other European ICE platform converted EVs. BMW parts are...

thanks for sharing your experience. Something I'm probably going to do soon. Where did you buy the oil? Dealer?

    BEV No Heat, Again...

I still have heat when it's cold (40s-50s) - but it's not heating when it's just a bit chilly. (60s) When I checked the car produced a new error code 80128E : 801252 ELECTRIC A/C COMPRESSOR: INTERNAL FAULT DETECTED https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10147036-9999.pdf also apparently...

how to start car after air-deployment

there is a module in the HV battery which also recognizes the crash and needs resetting. Further there is a Piro on the 12V battery BMW needs to to check the battery for damages before doing that! That forced disconnect is there for a reason. When the airbags deploy the impact must have been...

Teach Park Lock Module help, switch on terminal 15

do you have BimmerCode? If you code any specific module - BimmerCode does some magic and resets that module and clears out all errors. Would be worth trying coding some random stuff in the Body controller and the parking module and later just reverse it (write down what you did)

    HV Battery issue

Does the battery charge from charge port now? Have you tried resetting the high voltage switch under the hood ? If all the computers lost connection due to no power they need renegotiate. Many times it helps - just hooking the car on the charger and let it sit overnight.

I3 won't charge. Dealer has tried 3 things and wants do a 4th for $10k

You got options: Go to a different Dealer. Get OBD2 reader and read the codes. And the Universal answer to all BMW i3 electric problems: If you haven't changed the 12V battery yet - this would be good starting point. It causes all sorts of random errors.

    BEV No Heat, Again...

I didn't have heat for 2 Months, my car was at the dealership to diagnose the error for about one week. And they told me the resistance heater needs to be changed. (it had an error code) because if the giant price tag - I declined the service and wondered why I need resistance heating with a...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

Very interesting I found a HVAC reset on reddit: "There is a "hidden" reset that might work, try turning the temp-knob to the lowest and up to the highest setting 6 times fast." https://www.reddit.com/r/BMWi3/comments/z772y1/2017_i3_hot_air_isnt_working/ I've tried that yesterday evening -...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

the TSB gave me an idea: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10151271-9999.pdf SUBJECT Reduced or No HVAC Heat Output MODEL I01 (i3 & i3 Rex) I01 - The heat is not functioning at all. So there is apparently a software update which fixed the no heat error in the 2016 i3. Which is not...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

Did you went to the dealer for the software update? I read a few things that the software might do that. But I also read that it might change the regeneration feel of the car? Make it less aggressive - which I actually like ;)

    BEV No Heat, Again...

that is interesting that they keep updating the part. I mean it's a 400V water heater / kettle. Shouldn't be that hard to built or? I had a coolant block heater on one of my Volvos (230V) and that thing worked for decades. I never had any issues with the heat. The car is almost 6 years old...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

Thanks, Do you remember which modules BMW updated? My car isn't showing any dash lights either. It pretends everything is normal. The A/C display is going to red - indicating it should be heating. But nothing is happening. I've read the codes with BimmerLink and found it somewhere in the...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

was this topic ever solved? I got a 2017 BEV with no heat and a 801380 Error Code - which indicates an Error with the Electric Heater under the hood. But I have a heatpump - so at least at moderately cold temperatures I should have heat or? Even at 15C or 60F outside - I got nothing -...

12V battery step by step and preventing errors

A double terminal in electrical speak might be a contactor / relay. When everything is without power the computers might have forgotten in which state the relay currently is. When you build low draw infrastructure - relays are actuated once and then lock in place - not like regular relays...

12V battery step by step and preventing errors

Thanks for the input. So step 3 - charge to at least 50% ? Step 10: from what I read - when the 12V system is already running - without the HV System, it's in a error state already. Then you activate the HV system and computers don't talk to each other. If you wait until the 12V is off...

12V battery step by step and preventing errors

I got the 12V battery change ahead of me and wanted to put together a writeup how to get it done correctly the first time. Watched every Youtube on that topic and read all threads here with "12v" in the title. 0. Day before - Charge new 12V battery all the way up, make sure you don't have to go...

BMW i3 was ahead of its time AGAIN!

BMW should have followed through with the initial plan and sold i3s directly to consumers without going through the hesitant dealers under their own i-sub-brand. Like they are doing with Mini. You can see pretty obvious that the i3 was not designed with the BMW logo in mind :P Just remove...
