    i3 Rex with halogen headlights

I've just taken delivery of a new i3 94Rex :D , with the "sport" pack, which includes HK sound, choice of wheels, tinted glass, and LED headlights. It was the latter which decided me to splash out, because the halogen main beam headlights on my previous i3 were abysmal. Imagine my horror in...

    CarPlay

There has been discussion elsewhere about whether the 2017MY car has CarPlay. The local iGenius seems unaware of how it works, so I hope this helps - for a 2014 car. I have an iPhone 6s, and found that it shows no available cars in the list when I select Settings/General/CarPlay. It also...

    11k miles of mixed Rex-ing

I have totted up 11,300 miles of mixed motoring including long journeys and short. I have bought 338 litres of fuel and done 11,300 miles in 11 months. That's 33miles/litre on average. I usually get about 90 miles on a tank-full using Rex alone on long journeys. The longest round trip was 700...

Firmware upgraded, but still no SOC!

I was leaving home on battery and had a dire warning come on saying "Drivetrain. Don't turn off the car. It will not turn on again. Go directly to a BMW garage!" I did as I was bid, but the warning went away within 1/4 mile. They had it in, couldn't find a fault, and upgraded the software...

    Tips and Tricks

I've been asked elsewhere in this forum to share a description of auto-parking. I put it into tips and tricks so others can add new items if they wish When you want to park automatically, you start the process off when you are driving slowly past a line of cars with potential parking spaces in...

    Retrofitting Adaptive Cruise Control?

Having seen the youtube vids and some of the comments on here, and endured a gridlock  in London, I wish I'd ordered Adaptive Cruise Control. Does anyone know if it can be retrofitted?

starting the range extender for emissions testing

    This is copied (but I couldn't get rid of the underscores :( ) from Section 10 of the 12-W20 Engine.pdf: 10.1._Exhaust-gas_test_mode It_is_necessary_to_start_the_combustion_engine_for_an_exhaust-gas_test_in_the_BMW_I01_with_range...

Windows wound down in a downpour!

Has anyone suffered from this? A neighbour called and told me that my windows are down and it was pouring! :o I closed them straight away, but the car was soaked inside. Then, It happened again overnight in a deluge while i was asleep. Again it was soaked inside and took days to dry out...

What data will BMW collect from the connected i3's?

It occurs to me that the connected i3 could collect - and maybe also transmit in near-real time - all sorts of data as we drive. Including where we are, what speed we're doing, state of battery, Rex (if fitted), etc., etc. I just wonder whether there are privacy issues and whether we're likely...

    Power/torque misunderstandings

On the thread about the Audi A3 ETron, there is discussion about the power/ton and torque/ton which rather, IMHO, shows the author to misunderstand the relationship between power and torque. Power is a rate of working. Torque is a measure of rotary force, not a rate. Power is torque X speed (in...

Pre-heating Rex when connected to charger?

I ordered an Orange i3 in mid-March and expect it early November. It'll nearly be winter when it arrives, and I would like to know if I'll be able to warm the cabin before departure on a journey if the car is connected to my charger. The manual - page 128 - is vague about this point, but...

    How green is my i3?

I’m doubtful whether electric cars help Global Warming much at all – after all, most of the electricity at present comes from coal, oil, or gas-fired power stations whose thermal efficiency and transmission losses deliver less horsepower to the road than petrol-driven cars (which have comparable...

    Speed Limit indication

On my Merc, the map display (optionally) shows the instantaneous speed limit at all times. It's amazingly accurate, too, changing as we move between limits almost exactly as we pass the signs. It's a REALLY useful feature, so why not have it on the i3?

    Speed Limiter

I think a speed limiter addition to the car would be great. I have Speed Limiter and Cruise Control on my Merc. I hardly use the Cruise Control, but the Speed Limiter keeps me legal so I use it a lot. I haven't got my i3 yet, but I suspect that estimating my speed by ear will be harder in it so...
