BMW may have to up the ante soon...

This is why I think the 2016 Volt is compelling. 53 miles on pure electric for 95% of the time with a 2L ice for backup and only weighing 3500 lbs. It's primary an electric car versus all the other plug in hybrids, which are primary an ice car. I think it will be a game changer. I always...

BMW I3 -Most Dangerious Steering Of Any Car I've Owned!

    >>>the highest depreciated value of any car in its price range. $22,000 lost in 5 months >> It sounds like you're comparing the book value of a used i3 to the new selling price without the 7500 tax credit or any state credits. If so, you're overstating the depreciation because you didn't pay...

THIS CAR SUCKS! - HAD IT 10 MONTHS, JUST GOT 42 MILES!

    >>>be using the actual brakes a lot, >> My understanding is it's practically impossible to brake hard enough to get pad to metal. Normal braking will always regen with the needle staying in regen range. So braking shouldn't account for poor range. Ron

BMW I3 -Most Dangerious Steering Of Any Car I've Owned!

I couldn't find anything on the internet about i3 over steering or suspension complaints. I did find an interesting site listing tsbs but none having to do with steering http://www.carcomplaints.com/BMW/i3/2014/tsbs/ Ron

    Electric Cars Value Tumble (WSJ)

<<<all other makes must replace the entire battery bank when a cell is bad.>>> I believe the vw egolf can replace a single cell, as well. As regards residual values, the auto companies have an army of mbas tryng to make sure they don't lose. It's like trying to outsmart wall street or Las...

BMW I3 -Most Dangerious Steering Of Any Car I've Owned!

I'd be very interested if any i3 owners could test drive the egolf and provide subjective comparisons. I only test drove the i3 for a few blocks so I can't comment except that I've noticed none of the attributes described here with the egolf. I bookmarked several reviews where the i3 and egolf...

    Stuck in Park position

How does the battery get charged? Do you have to drive the car to charge? Is there an indicator that shows the percent state of charge? I know with my egolf I was worried about the 12v battery during the winter when the car wasn't used but I discovered a button sequence on the trip button...

    Electrician quotes higher than expected

It was extended for residential installations for tax year 2014. The key is whether it will be extended once again. It will take a year end compromise, but if it's done, Green car reports will have an article on it. There's a tax form you had to fill out for 2014 Ron

    Electrician quotes higher than expected

Watch legislation, especially at the end of the year, to see if Congress renews the tax credit of 30% up to 1000 for installing a charger Ron

Is this daily commute realistic without Rex?

If it's a L2 charger at work, you may not have enough time to charge. What if the charger is down for a couple of days or in use or blocked by an ice or you get the afternoon off for xmas? Your profile suggests a phev. The 2016 Volt will give you 50 miles electric and you have a small 1.8L...

Seriously starting to dislike the i3-please skip if disagree

The 2016 Volt has a 50 mile range, which to me makes it more of a bev than a phev. It's just that it''s REX is 1.8L and therefore qualifies as a true road car. If a person could only have 1 car, most would rarely use the gas engine as the average trip is under 50 miles. Ron

Good idea to get an i3 for around 500 miles per week?

From your driving profile, I'd be more inclined for a 50 mile plug in hybrid like the 2016 Volt or some of those under development with more than the typical 15-30 range. 50 miles is to a phev as 200 miles is to a bev. 50 miles makes it worth the trouble to charge it. With 50 miles, it's more...

Seriously starting to dislike the i3-please skip if disagree

I'm getting 4.8-5.1 miles/kwh in normal mode mostly local with some freeway. with usable battery of 21.1kwh so 100 is probably right. I don't use the ac much There are a number of posts on the facebook egolf where drivers are posting speedometer pics of 100-110 so it is possible the car does a...

Seriously starting to dislike the i3-please skip if disagree

Just out of curiosity, did you test drive the vw egolf? I'd be interested in your comparison. I suspect not since you bought a Rex and the egolf is only bev. I test drove the i3, but it didn't go beyond that. The wife wanted a more conventional look and the 9,000 difference was hard to...

    BMW i3 Trade-in value - surprisingly depressing

Can't compare to MSRP. You probably didn't pay it plus you may have taken 7500 tax credit plus any state credit. Allow for 1st owner depreciation and that buyer has to find a buyer and you can get the price down pretty fast. Also, your sales tax is sunk cost as you can't expect a buyer to...

Recuperated Energy - what exactly does it mean?

    >>>you may only save 50% of the energy it took to get you moving when you stop (don't take that number to heart>>>> Shouldn't there be a graph showing what that % is at various speeds (which thus equals momentum/kinetic energy) If it's mostly 90% it's not worth coasting but if it's mostly 40%...

Noticed how well this thing coasts

How do you have more control? If I drive with the gearshift in B (max level 4 regen), can't I coast the same as you by keeping the pedal at the point where it's neither regen or accelerating? Ron
