BMW i3 waiting list five months... for a test drive

Marketing spin !! 10000 worldwide orders good start but Ford shift 20000 Fiestas a month just in the UK and BMW sale about 7000 of their 3 Series in a month in UK. So global sales of 10000 is very small.

    Electric cars suffer worst depreciation

In a democracy there is nothing wrong with lots of different views or have I missed something?! I will probably return to buying a second hand one in 12 months just think they are highly overpriced at present.

    NCAP rating

Yes I agree will also be interesting to see how the US Authorities rate the car and if BMW make last minute changes to the spec. The absolute key aspect here however will be what happens in crash situations and whether the NCAP comments about things like poor whiplash protection are proven...

    NCAP rating

Should owners be concerned by the NCAP results showing such poor protection for pedestrians? Given the near silent running of an electric car and the expectation most of its work will be in the city how do the engineers at BMW design a car that NCAP shows would probably not be a good experience...

    NCAP rating

Will be interesting to see how BMW play this. They clearly need to make some urgent changes but that will take time. I remember how Mercedes got it wrong with that J turn test on the A Class, really hurt sales until they sorted it. As the i3 will be used as a city car where rear end shunts...

    NCAP rating

Looks like the i3 is the only car BMW makes that doesn't get 5 stars http://m.euroncap.com/index_en.aspx#results

    NCAP rating

I quote from the Autocar article The new BMW city car achieved four stars on its test, with Euro NCAP commenting that in severe side impacts protection of the chest for adult occupants was "weak", and that the front seats and head restraints provided only marginal protection against whiplash in...

    NCAP rating

I think this is a real concern, it would put me off buying the car. With all the hype from BMW they have failed one of the major tests for a car getting safety absolutely correct. With so many cars getting 5 stars these days a 4 star rating is not good enough in my view...

    200 UK orders

Agree UK will not be a big market. Poor charging infrastructure, poor UK road surface/ hard ride, high leasing cost and so many good small diesel cars. New Mini launched today looks amazing value next to the i3. I recall BMW wants to sell c4000 cars a year in UK. I doubt they will do more than...

Will you order all electric or Rex?

Tom. Why do you think BMW didn't just do a bit more to improve battery range with a larger battery. A range of only 60 miles in winter starts to make this look a very expensive car

Will you order all electric or Rex?

Go for the all electric the Rex is a bit noisy. Old technology scooter engine as much as the engineers have tried it doesn't really fit with the quiet nature of the Bev. Bev is quicker as well. Most people will go for this once they can overcome range fear

    200 UK orders

Must admit I would have thought BMW would have sold more than this. Maybe the UK won't be a big market for them. Half as many i8's sold. I still think BMW has the pricing wrong and they will have to support volume by better finance deals once early adopters have their cars...
