    Oil Filter: Mahle Alternatives?

Just curious if anyone's ever used / seen and oil filter that wasn't made my Mahle. I was at AutoZone today and their book claims an STP 3656 or K&N 164 will work, but I'm a bit skeptical as I know the REx is basically a motorcycle engine and much wider than usual.

    Charging Port Cover Sticking

Yeah; I was also worried WD-40 might eat through the plastic since it is oil based. For $5, going with a silicon spray seemed the wiser choice: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0019LV3GO?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Gave it a little squirt and used an old tooth brush to try and get good...

    Charging Port Cover Sticking

Had this happen on the old 2016 e-Golf, now it's starting to happen on the 2018 i3. When opening the charging port cover, it usually sticks in the closed position and I have to use fingernails or a pen to pry it open. Closing and staying closed works no problem. Consensus seems to be use a...

    Windshield Seal Failing

I've got this too, just noticed a couple days ago when washing the roof. I'd guess it started several months ago, and since I'm the original owner, would say it's simply inevitable deterioration due to heat/sun/wind/rain. Here in Santa Cruz we experienced record rains over the winter and...

    "Unable to Charge" L1/L2 charge

Got it back last week. Seemed like they could never definitively state a root cause, but since they'd already replaced the charging module 2 months ago, they this time did the charging port and surrounding wiring and now L1/L2 charging is working without issue on any charger. The connectors...

    "Unable to Charge" L1/L2 charge

They ran diagnostics and saw code 805506. Checked all wires and found no damage. Replaced the LIM (charing interface module), performed programming and encode new control unit, verified L1/L2 charging then worked. Car was able to L1/L2 charge without issue for about a month, then started...

    "Unable to Charge" L1/L2 charge

Just left the dealer with my X3 loaner for the weekend. As suspected, it is a hardware issue and they need to replace a module related to charging. Should get the i3 back middle of next week and will post full description.

    "Unable to Charge" L1/L2 charge

Had this start a few months ago and it's gradually been getting worse to the point that L1/L2 charging fails most of the time. I plug in, get a flashing blue light for about 10 seconds, then it turns red with "Unable to charge" message displayed on the screen. This happens both at my...

    REX not kicking in

I had it happen when I first got the car, and it failed the start the maintenance cycle. Someone on the Facebook group recommended putting it in emissions test mode to verify the REx was operational: Lift tailgate open Switch on ignition and leave drive in 'P' Press and hold accelerator pedal...

    I3s first drive

I have similar sentiments. The original i3's highway driving left some to be desired, which is why I went with the e-Golf. Getting to drive both my new i3s and the old e-Golf side by side over the last week, they're more comparable. I have to say though I still give a slight preference to...

    30A 125V Socket

Ah that's good to know. I would absolutely say change it to 240V then and go with a 14-50, 14-30, or 5-20 plug, higher the better, depending on what the panel can handle. 0 to 100 charge times would look like this: 50a circuit / 32a charging = 7.68 kW ~4 hrs 30a circuit / 24a charging = 5.76...

    2017 vs 2016 Model i3

I think you made the right choice in going with the 2016 REx. Investing in a i3 only makes sense when it covers 99% of your driving needs. I love having mine and being able to go to Paso Robes (125 miles) or Napa (115 miles) which would be reachable via a 2017/2018 BEV but the REx lets me go...

    just ordered my i3s

Congrats on your order. I've just completed 2 weeks with mine and other than confusion around using the infotainment system and a false positive on the REx maintenance cycle, I'm loving the car. My old 2016 e-Golf, which I enjoyed greatly, now seems like a dinosaur.

Is it the car or the charge station?

I don't know how fast chargers are in the EU and Australia, but in the US it's not uncommon for them to be online, but semi-working, or not working at all. I was taking a road trip last weekend and had the unpleasant surprised of hitting two broken ChargePoint ones in a 100 mile stretch: both...

    30A 125V Socket

The one that came with my 2018 i3s is even lower than that - only 10a. Also got the 120/240V TurboCord, but that's a mere 16a. Both are so slow compared to my ChargePoint Home 240v/32a system I doubt I'll ever use either. The NEMA TT-30 plugs are pretty rare. I don't think I've seen any...

    2015 i3 BEV or REX?

Prices for used EVs have historically been a bit higher in California due to demand for HOV access stickers. The rules for those will change in 2019 and it'll be interesting to see what that does for the market. In theory, prices for older ones that are ineligible to renew will dive, while...

    Tom on the i3s

If they do increase the battery to 42 kWh for the 2019 or 2020 models, I'll be kicking myself. A battery above 40 would be the point that I no longer need a REx, since I could get up to SF and back or down to Paso Robles without making any charging stops. As it stands now, I rarely need the...

Just brought a 2015 tera world!

Looks great on both sides. I've got the ChargePoint too and appreciate nice and sleek it looks. You'll be pleased to know I've had mine almost a year and have had zero problems and it still looks good as knew despite being outdoors on a westward-facing wall.

USA EV Charger 120 to 220 Volts Conversion

Whoops, right. I missed the the obvious. Fortunately you can get them both for $500 with the Jesla Jr. tusconev.com has a similar product. True, but I've already invested nearly $900 in the ChargePoint, which I've been very happy with...well other than not qualifying for the tax credit. I...

Leasing new 2018 model vs buying 2016 model

There's no fundamental difference between the 2015 and 2016 models. IMO, either way, you'll find yourself craving longer range and I'd go with the cheaper 2015. The depreciation on them seems to have leveled out and even if you only keep it for a year, you don't be out all that much money...
