Turning OFF range extender hold mode

I have the same experience (REX not turning off immediately when so instructed). I think it tries to get the SOC to at or near the point where the REX was turned on. Or perhaps the other theories expressed here are correct. My point is only that this seems like normal behavior as mine...

Car temporarily immobile at low SOC

We had a first-time experience the other day in which our i3 REX inexplicably went from around 6% to 0% SOC when sitting for about 5 hours. Here's what happened: I drove the car on a 200-mile trip at the end of which the REX was on (though I have coded the car to permit engaging the REX at 75%...

What is Your Experience with Frequent 200 mile Trips?

I take the car on two 200-mile single day drives each month. I have coded the car to increase the fuel capacity from 1.9 to 2.4 gallons and give me the ability to turn on the REX at 75% SOC or less. I carry a 2-gallon Rotopax to give me maximum flexibility and because there can be big gaps...

    REX + Rotopax

It fits at the back of the frunk box.

    REX + Rotopax

We use one 2-gallon Rotopax. Fits well in the frunk. And I recommend getting the spout designed for water--unlike the gas spout, the water spout is vented, so the gas pours much, much better and faster. The benefit of the 2-gallon size is that if you code the car for the 2.4 gallon internal...

Successful Coding after KLE and software update

Tomasz, will you or have you added the info about the TNK_VOLL_ANZEIGE setting change to the coding instructions document?

    Long haul rexing?

Coding to gain the European option of turning the REx on at will at 75% SOC or less as well as the 2.4 gallon gas tank IS very helpful for longer drives. I've coded the car to restore both of these capabilities. Since doing that, I've adopted the practice of using the REx on freeway...

    Emergency fuel can for frunk

I've been using the EPA-approved spout that came with the tank. With that spout, I don't need a funnel. With some practice, you'll get the hang of it. The only real disadvantage is that there's no venting on the tank or the spout, so it takes a long time to empty the Rotopax tank. I've just...

    Emergency fuel can for frunk

Just measured mine. It's more like 18 x 13-3/4, and it fits just fine at the back (side away from the front of the car) of the frunk. It might be too tall to fit at the front of the frunk.

    Emergency fuel can for frunk

The Rotopax 2-gallon fits very well in the frunk.

BMW, Volkswagen and ChargePoint Announce Initiative...

Tom, I think I can clarify the point WoodlandHills was making. Nothing wrong with a DCFC or Tesla Supercharger being in a shopping center, but what he was saying is that it should be very close to, if not immediately beside, a freeway. The few times I've encountered Tesla Superchargers, they...

BMW, Volkswagen and ChargePoint Announce Initiative...

As of today, we have one SAE Combo DCFC in Arizona. It's at a gas station/convenience store immediately beside the freeway in Tucson. Perfect location if you're driving to Tucson from elsewhere. So a gas station isn't a bad location, except that it's better if there's a restaurant or shopping...

BMW, Volkswagen and ChargePoint Announce Initiative...

But, Woodland Hills, it appears to me that, with this latest announcement, BMW and VW are moving closer to the Tesla model of installing fast chargers appropriately spaced along highway corridors, and I believe that is a very significant and positive development. As I see it, we have seen two...

Choice between DC rapid charge or AC fast charge

Though I'm by no means a battery expert, based on information online, there does appear to be growing evidence to the effect that DC rapid charging is not as harmful as once thought, or perhaps even not harmful at all, to long-term battery life. To be fair, there's also some evidence to the...

    Update on KLE replacement problem

I experienced an unsuccessful attempt to replace the KLE, though I don't think it was my dealer's fault (BMW Tucson). I made an appointment for the work and delivered the car as planned. Later that morning, the service rep called to say that when they opened the box the new KLE had been...

    pick up new car tomorrow

I'll assume there are no sustained climbs on your route. I'm not aware of any mountain passes near London. :D This is just my practice: On a trip like you described, I use the REx only on the freeway portion, saving the battery for cities, towns and back roads, and I try to finish the trip...

Retrofitting/fixing EU gas tank into US model?

Sorry I can't help, but I would like to join the chorus of people who'd like to know exactly what BMW did to reduce the tank capacity. I've been on the lookout for any information of the subject for a few months now and haven't seen anything.
