Metallic rattle sound from passenger side over deep bumps

Nope. Took it to BMW, and an independent mechanic too. It must be something in the door or deeper inside of the car. No longer have the i3.

How to Deliberately Lose Battery Capacity

The opposite of what would be good for the battery: Fast charge only Store at low state of charge when not using Drive it as hard as you can Maybe tow something heavy and repeatedly fast charge This reminds me of the Simpsons episode “King-size Homer” :) It’s unfortunate that they don’t...

Soundproofing to reduce road noise and boominess?

I find a lot of the sounds in the i3 to be "too much" when driving over rough surfaces or at highway speed. Has anyone attempted to add soundproofing material (mass-loaded vinyl) to the doors, or other areas? One other thought to reduce boominess over bumpy roads was to add butyl sound...

Broke side mirror glass - which replacement part?

Hi all, 2017 Terra REx, all packages, 4/17 build. I broke the passenger side mirror glass and am having a difficult time find the exact (or a suitable) part. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=1Z63-USA-04-2016-I01-BMW_i-i3_94Ah&diagId=51_9184 This part looks correct, while FCP...

    Transforming i3 into a vault

@Electronchaser thank you for this write up! How did it work out? I would love to hear more about the result and the process. I agree that a lot of noise seems to come from the sides of the car (including wind, and electric motor whine).

    Sound proofing the motor sound?

Thank your for your thoughts frictioncircle! I am attempting to find a shop that can apply the sound absorption. I also tried filling the cargo area with soft sound dampening material and other odds and ends to occupy the available space. That seemed to help marginally. Interestingly, the sound...

Regen braking question on newer models (2017+) and quidzel?

Regarding the traction control, the system was upgraded for the 2018 model year. It's quicker to react and no longer has those issues.

    Sound proofing the motor sound?

Thank you! It is a 2017 REx model. I have had it for a few months now.

    Sound proofing the motor sound?

Has anyone noticed a NVH improvement (motor noise, or otherwise) with the parcel shelf installed? My car didn't come with one. Back to the motor noise, most of it seems to originate from the underside of the car, rather than from the rear of the interior. I hear it a lot more as a driver than...

Metallic rattle sound from passenger side over deep bumps

Sure, here's the file: http://sndup.net/cgfm It can be heard twice. Something must be loose, but I'm not sure where to go hunting. It sounds like it's mostly from the rear, but sometimes it sounds closer to the front.

Battery range continues to drop when Rex cuts in.

I would strongly recommend coding "hold state of charge" which adds an option to start the REx as low as 75% state of charge. Non-US i3s all have this option by default.

    Set a maximum charge limit

There is less regen braking above 90%, right? For that reason alone I would like to set a lower charge limit for my daily use. I use between 0-10% of the battery most days.

Metallic rattle sound from passenger side over deep bumps

Thanks for your thoughts. I was thinking suspension, but it's not any louder when the windows are down. The sound is definitely eminating from the interior. I took a look at the motor/engine cover and three of the neoprene nuts were destroyed (part #16...

Metallic rattle sound from passenger side over deep bumps

Thanks for your input. I have been knocking and tapping on every surface in the car, but no luck so far. It really sounds like it's in the cabin, but it takes a sizable bump to activate it.

Metallic rattle sound from passenger side over deep bumps

I’m hearing a metallic sound that almost sounds like two coins touching when going over deep bumps. It’s from the left side, possibly the seat or dash. I have removed everything from the car and searched for loose objects, but no luck. Has anyone heard this before? Thoughts on diagnosing it?

Very loud REX - does a Motor Bike Silencer work?

Were you able to try a different REx car? I suspect the first one had a problem.

Very loud REX - any solutions?

The REx kicks on at 7%. It's already a compromise since the car cannot deliver peak power at 7%. In Europe the cars have an option called 'Hold State of Charge" to turn on the REx at 75%. That is much safer. Most US owners "code" their car with an app called Bimmercode to add this option. I...

Very loud REX - any solutions?

Could you give a decibel reading from the NIOSH app (dBA and dBC)? A video might also be useful, but phones typically add some compression. I have driven two REx models extensively, a 2018, and my 2017. The REx on both was extremely muted, all but inaudible at highway speed. I think there is...
