BMW Long-life rating LL-01Approved Synthetic Oils for the US Market

Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra SAE 5W-30

Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30

Use only oils with an API rating of SM or higher.

Dealer gave me a bottle of their 5W30 LL-01 synthetic oil when we picked up the car.

Car label (under the rear cover) says 0W30.

Car takes 2.5 litres of oil without oil filter.

Instructions say to go to dealer if low. Where would you add it?

Dealer gave us a kit that included two paper funnels that you would use to pour oil down dipstick. These funnels are poorly made imho. So I used a small pump with plastic tube that I had for adding oil to bottom end of outboard motor.

If you are in the US, you get free oil and filter changes on the REx (annually) for the first 4 years of ownership. I'm a DIY kind of guy myself and enjoy performing maintenance (I came from a maintenance-heavy BMW previously) but if its free I'm going let the dealer do it. If it were a traditional ICE, I would probably do a change myself in-between their changes, but the REx hardly ever runs, so I don't think its necessary.
