Other posts on here say BMW is including Professional Navigation at no cost for car delivered before March 2014.

Does anyone know if this is just 609 Navigation System - Professional or are they giving ZNP Media Package - BMW Professional?

Normally 609 can not be ordered without ZNP. (At least not in the UK)

If you get any of the options that are dependent on ZNP are they charging the without ZNP price?

For example 6NS, Enhanced Bluetooth is £430 without ZNP and £350 with ZNP.

I'll ask BMW directly if no one here knows.

ZNP is my understanding When your dealer puts the spec into the system it will show as free of charge

Just looked at my order form it shows prof nav upgrade including RTTI. Nil cost

Order code shows now as ZNU and sub section shows 609 and 6AM

The dealers are still having a few niggles with the ordering system. My order includes ZNU Prof Nav upgrade with RTTI shown as £0, but my enhanced bluetooth (6NS) is shown as£430 on the invoice rather than the reduced amount of £350. I am told that this will be corrected at a future date. They are also unable at present to place an order for the Online Entertainment option as it isn't currently confirmed for early production vehicles.

What is 'online entertainment'?

It's a Spotify-type thing for getting music on the go. Details here: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technology/connecteddrive/2013/services_apps/online_entertainment.html

My dealer (UK) reckoned the "free" Pro satnav upgrade was a mistake on the system. Has anyone actually placed an order & had it confirmed?

Yes I have a confirmed order will free professional nav upgrade. Your dealer maybe hasn't placed any orders as it comes up clearly on their system

I was told all i3's BUILT before March get the upgrade.

So unless your dealer doesn't have any build slots left before March (probably unlikely at this stage) you should get it.

Are you dealing with an "i" Dealer? .... if so, they really ought to know this.

When I first mentioned this to my dealer he didn't know that it was included so he brought up the order screen to check and it's automatically selected without him having to do so.

I got the feeling that the local dealers aren't as in control as a normal purchase. You have to sign a form to declare that you are a customer of BMWi and the salesman hinted that originally BMWi wanted to sell the i3 wholly online.

Wel, I just confirmed my spec this morning, and guess what, pro satnav came up on the computer as £0! Thanks for the heads-up everyone. Delivery January apparently.

What spec did you go for?

When I placed the order, I quizzed them about the £0 cost upgrade. They hadn't noticed and spent a while trying to make it go away! Eventually the i-specialist (ie bloke who'd been on a course) printed out all the detailed specs which contained a note saying (I think) "no cost upgrade on all cars built before March".

They (Eastleigh, nr Southampton) were unable to give me any idea about delivery dates but have assured me they'll be in touch soon.

They did seem a little behind the curve, to be honest - my knowledge was probably greater than theirs. But as I was their first placed order, this is not a huge surprise. I suspect I've read about and researched EVs and the i3 to a much deeper level than their internal courses.

What spec did you go for?

Pure electric (10-mile each-way commute + maybe 20 miles a day on business)
Metallic Andesite Silver (looks nice & "technical")
Cold weather cabin prep (do I need this? It'll be outside overnight, and I like the idea of a frost-free windscreen by the time I get in it)
Winter pack
Media package
Suite interior (not sure on this, might switch to standard before it's too late. But I definitely want a dark steering wheel)
LED headlights
Comfort Access (I've got used to having this, so now it's a pain having to plip to open other cars & actually put my key in the ignition)
Bluetooth (not sure on this either - is it just to talk to the car to dial phone numbers & change stations? If so, might not bother. But it also says extended audio interface, is that to stream music wirelessly from my phone to the car?)
Internet
Service pack
429 wheels

Hmmm, reading that back, I should've asked some questions here before speccing the car I think!

So, my man-maths tells me the money I save on petrol in my current car will pay the lease on all that, and therefore it's a free car! :)

It also means I can keep my current car while putting fewer miles on it, so less wear & tear (especially tyres at £1300 a set), less servicing, and less depreciation. I'm actually making a profit...in my world, anyway.

By "cold weather prep" - do you mean the heat pump? Which is a must, I'd have thought on the full EV in the UK.

And I'm not so sure that asking more questions would have helped a great deal. Most of my questions were answered with "er, I'll have to get back to you" - and I'd found answers online long before the dealership managed. Not that they're a poor dealership - they're just new to all this and questions such as "what's BMWs strategy for rolling out DC charging?" are totally beyond their ken.

So, my man-maths tells me the money I save on petrol in my current car will pay the lease on all that, and therefore it's a free car! :)

Likewise. Not only did man-maths prove that I could afford this car; it also proved that I'd be a reckless fool not buy it.

Comfort Access - I've had a couple of cars with Keyless start ..... which are fine if you have somewhere to put the key once inside the car, I couldn't see one in the i3 (something to check out at Frankfurt).
Therefore without Comfort Access you have to take your key out of your Pocket/ HB/ Case, open the car then put key back away again..... whilst its not the end of the world ........its rather irritating.
With Comfort Access just keep Key in Pocket /HB/ Case walk up to car, open door, sit down then press start..... should be standard on all Keyless Go cars without a place to put a key within the car .......in my view.

My Man Maths

My i3 is equivalent to buying a 43mpg £17,700 car and keeping it for 80k miles - costs would be approx. the same (if the price of petrol goes up the same amount as it has done in the last 6 years)
BTW I don't go into London's congestion charge area.....

The only 43mpg (ish) Automatic that costs approx. £17,700 (with relatively decent performance - under 10 seconds 0-60 ) available with a Sunroof /Sat Nav / BT / Sensors etc that I could find is a Seat Ibiza 1.2 DSG ......I know which one I would rather spend 80k miles in.

Well that's my crowbarred justification ......

Assuming the i3 comfort access is the same a normal BMW comfort access then the key can stay in your pocket.

I think that's Parker's point, that with Comfort Access the key stays in your pocket/briefcase whatever, but with the standard Keyless Start you have to get the key out to unlock, then put it back or find a home inside the car.
