I recently purchase a 2014 CPO BMW i3 with 16K miles on it. Love the car. Great vehicle.

However, I seem to be having charging problems:
- DC Fast charge: works fine
- Level 1 Charger included with vehicle: seems to work ok, but I sometimes get "Charging with reduced power" error.
- Level 2 Charger: works at reduced charging. Get reduced charging error. Max charging I've gotten is ~ 3.7kW.

Here's images of screen when charging with error, and the eMotorWerks L2 charging app screen:

Just purchased and installed new JuiceBox Pro 40A level 2 charger. EVSE is connected to a 40A 240V outlet. Plugging in results in reduced charging. No errors indicated on the JuiceBox app, but the i3 shows "Charging with reduced power" error on screen. This also appeared sometimes with the L1 that came with the i3.

I have made the setting on i3 for "charge immediately" and "maximum" charge rates on both L1 and L2. I do have a setting to precondition the car for leaving at 7:30am. One odd thing - the charge screen was taken at 2pm, and it shows the car not being fully charged until 7:30am?

Car was purchased from a BMW dealer. The history showed routine maintenance and software updates via CarFax. I did not see anything about the KLE being replaced. Don't know if that would show on CarFax report.

Is this a setting issue, or a KLE issue? Should I take it in for service?

I don't know if this is your issue or not, but maybe this will help:

Hi OP, we just got a 2014 BMW i3 used, all services to the car checked out etc, and now that we've had it two weeks, we're getting the exact same error messages you've described in your original post when sometimes charging on level 1 and level 2. Can you tell me if you got the issue sorted or has it just been one-offs occasionally when charging message pops up? Orrrrrrrrrr did you end up having to get the KLE replaced? I find it hard to believe that BMW wouldn't have replaced the KLE from ours (we're now third owners and 2nd owner was borderline obsessive in services/had new battery replaced a year ago) but I'm afraid this may be the case. Appreciate any insight you can provide as to your experience. Cheers!
