Hi EV friends.
I have ZERRO problems with my BMW i3, until today.

I turned on car and when I want to start on display i see error message.
"Unable to change transmission position
Selector lever fault
Drive to the nearest BMW Service"

BMW i3 do not want to go forward or backward. It is stucked in parking position so there is no chance I can drive it to service center :-(
Turning on/off didnt help.
No strange noises, no any visible physical problems with drive selector
12V battery is on 100%

I have OBDII bluetooth adapter Vlink so I connect to car but all of application want some payment to unlock any features. (bimmer-tool, bimmerLink, BimmerCode)
I do not know which app can help me to diagnose problem ?

Please suggest me app (pc or android).
Off course I appreciate any help for problem I have.

Thank you !

BimmerLink can read and delete diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's), so license BimmerLink to learn more about your i3 problem. However, the descriptions of DTC's can be very brief, technical, and unclear, so knowing what DTC's are behind the error message that is being displayed might not lead you to a solution. However, you're shooting in the dark without knowing the DTC's.

Beemer link activated.
But strange, now error is not active and I can switch forward/backward !?!?!?!

I have zilion of errors in memory,
and 5 permanent errors which cant be deleted

Even though you state that your "12V battery is on 100%", lots of unrelated DTC's is a symptom of a low 12 V system voltage, at least at some point even if it's normal now. A loose 12 V battery clamp or SAE battery post attachment screw could cause intermittent loss of 12 V power from the 12 V battery. The output voltage of a failing 12 V battery could be normal at rest but drop considerably under load resulting in lots of DTC's being set. Focus on the 12 V battery until you know it's not to blame.

TNX. Already asked 2 BMW services in town to offer me 12V battery.
Now I have beemerlink so I can myself register battery.
Car is 2017 and beemerlink told me that there was no 12V replacement in history.

Let change it ;-)

Today, total disfunctional car. Cant open door. Car do not respond on remote control and on keyless system.
No other way than using mechanical key.
I also opened and frunk mechanically and pull out 12V battery.
Done in 2-3 minutes.

BMW do not have original spare 12V battery in whole Croatia. So delivery will be from 3 to 10 working days.
Too long waiting time for me.

I found compatible 12V battery with exact dimension - Exide model AGM12-23 for 100 EURs with VAT.
Now battery is charging and tomorrow I hope that new battery will fix all mad errors I saw in previous few days ;-)

So it is good to know that AGM12-23 is way to go and also it is twice cheaper than original battery in Europe.
As I know, USA friends can user Remy battery AUX18L, and we can use Exide model AGM12-23 .

Battery changed ... all work perfectly !
Most difficult was engaging again high voltage fuse .... grrrr

It appears that the AGM12-23 is a motorsports battery (i.e., motorcycle, snowmobile, ATV, etc.) like the ETX18L in the U.S. These seem to be designed to be installed in a well-ventilated area because each cell could vent explosive or poisonous gases directly out the top of the battery.

The OEM battery, an AUX18L in the U.S., has cell vents that are all connected to a common vent pipe on the upper rear corner of the battery. A long tube exiting in the right fender well is attached to this vent pipe so if explosive or poisonous gases are vented, they would be directed into the wheel well rather than accumulating in the frunk. The frunk certainly isn't air-tight, and venting wouldn't likely occur unless the battery is failing in a certain way, so installing a motorsports battery probably isn't very dangerous. Many have done so in the U.S. without any reports of problems. For some reason, they're considerably cheaper than an AUX18L even though the venting design seems to be the main different.

I guess another difference is the terminal design. Were you able to attach the screw-on automotive posts from the OEM battery on the AGM12-23? Apparently, these posts must be modified a bit to fit on an ETX18L.

Great!

Yes, the HV disconnect can be a pain to disconnect and connect. Even though original orange version was replaced by a green version in the i3 LCI models, 2018 and later, I don't think it was improved. The new version can still be a pain to disconnect and connect. Fortunately, this doesn't have to be done often.

You can download OBD Fusion which is a popular OBD-II scanner app with a variety of features, including real-time data monitoring, fault code reading and clearing, and trip logging. It offers a free basic version, but you'll need to purchase the full version ($9.99) to unlock advanced features like custom dashboards and data export.

A quick look at the OBD Fusion Website seems to indicate that it doesn't support the proprietary BMW diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) used on i3's. It might report and clear these codes but might not be able to display descriptions. This is a common problem with generic OBD scanners.

BimmerLink can display descriptions of proprietary BMW DTC's although the descriptions can be very brief and difficult to understand.
