It seems as though some aspects of the 'standard/default car' are not quite right in the UK insurance databases. For example, they have it as a 5 seater saloon in several of the comparison sites. Some also list it as having not having an alarm.

Obviously these can be edited/corrected, but is it true to say it has a tracker?

It has a system where the car can report it's location to BMW but it's not what I would call a tracker.

Could you send me an example of the problem?.
Not quite sure what you mean. If you mean which insurance quoting systems seem to use databases that have the details incorrectly, the answer appears to be: most of them.
e.g. Google (https://www.google.co.uk/compare/carinsurance/):
Is this your car?
BMW I3
5 door, 2013 - (onwards), Electric, Automatic
We've found your car and think it:
Is right-hand drive
Is a saloon
Is not imported
Has Thatcham-approved category 2 immobiliser
uSwitch (https://www.uswitch.com/car-insurance/quote-forms/54733e5b6361727e2f6d0300/car-details):
Are the following car details correct? Yes No
If you believe the above details are incorrect then please select 'no' and amend them to match your car specifications.
We think the car:
has 5 seats
is right hand drive
has an immobiliser fitted
does not have an alarm fitted
is not imported
Gocompare.com (https://car.gocompare.com/vehicle):
Your car:
BMW I3 , 2013 onwards, 0cc, 5 door hatchback, Automatic, Electric
This car:
is right-hand drive (UK standard)
has 5 seats
has no tracking device
has a manufacturer-fitted alarm and/or immobiliser
is not imported
Car details
If these details are not correct, choose ‘No’ and you will be given the opportunity to change them.
Are these details correct?
Yes No
Moneysupermarket.com (https://www.moneysupermarket.com/car-insurance/aboutthecar/)
BMW I3 2013-2014 Electric 0.0L Auto 5 doors I3
Based on this, we think the car:
Is right hand drive
Has 5 seats
Has no tracker device fitted
Has a Thatcham 2 alarm
Is not imported
Important: Ensure that the details of the car above are correct in order to get the right cover.
I want to change these details

etc. etc.

We found the same when get insurance for ours. At the end of the day we didn't worry about it...just called around until we were happy with the amount.

FYI we paid £310 for 12 months, full-coverage, raised cover values (don't recall exacts, but more than the minimum), including loaner. We are married, 30 years old, clean driving records/no accidents, 10+ years no claims, park in locked garage overnight, all that jazz. We did receive some ridiculous quotes as high as £1200 "because this a new car with unproven technology".

When I was quoted by BMW Insurance, when they were confirming the usual not modified, is it RHD, non import, etc. they asked me to confirm it was a 5 seater, so somehow it has got onto a database like that. Just confirmed no, it has 4 seatbelts.

I'm paying £650 (age 45, Dorset, no points, no accidents, full UK licence since 17) as they won't let me use my full NCD because it is being used up on another car. I tried to argue the toss about this saying that if I had convictions, they would quite happily take those into consideration on all other policies but to no avail.
