Would the i3 benefit from supercapacitors

In addition to having low energy density, which means sizeable space would be needed, supercapacitors have a diffferent voltage curve than batteries, which means that you would need an additional power conversion unit, so more electronics, more space, more costs, more potential problems.... In...

    Outrageous repair cost

Hi ASUN, we had icing rain and my driveway has a small slope towards the street. When I parked my car, the rain had just started which left a trace of ice under the tires. In the morning, the car had moved about 6 feet, away from the charging station which ripped the connector out. While this...

    Outrageous repair cost

The charging connector was ripped off my i3 while locked in, breaking the AC receptacle on the car. The repair time and cost by the BMW dealer is 2 weeks and $2900 plus taxes (15% where I live in Canada). With the cost of the rental, I will be looking at a total cost north of $4000 CA. This is...

Turn off preconditioning with iRemote app

I live in Quebec, and Precondition now is one of the most used remote app feature during the winter time. However, if I change my mind in the subsequent minutes, I would like the ability to turn it off remotely instead of letting it time out and burn electricity unnecessarily. So while pre...

My experience between 49 degree and 75 degree 90 mile trip

It was -20C (-4F) this morning in Montreal with my i3 parked outside all night and the preconditioning was on when I left. I kept the cabin temperature at 17C (63F) and the driver seat heater on, and was getting an electric range estimate of 90km (55miles). I drove 30km (18.6 miles) at speeds...

    Resonant noise

Thanks Tom, your explanation makes a lot of sense and the noise is indeed much noticeable around 30mph while turning or swerving.

My i3 experience so far...In the shop for 18 days & counting

I have about 4,000 miles (6,200 km) and only problem was the CEL, now fixed with the new software. I have all of the options (BEV, suite, 20", DC charger, technology package, Harmon Kardon). The only complaint, albeit minor, is the noise from the wheels around mid speed (30-50 mph). I was...

    Resonant noise

I thought for a while the noise was related to tire wear, but the more I pay attention to it, the more I believe it is related to wind turbulence in the wheels. I have the 20" and the large flat surface with the oval openings make me think that wind turbulence causing a bit of resonant noise is...

    Resonant noise

Kevin, what you describe is exactly how it occurs,ie it is loudest when you take a long turn at an exit at mid speed. One theory from a friend which may make sense is that it comes from wind turbulence in the rear wheels. I have the 20" wheels and will try an experience of taping the openings...

    Resonant noise

I just passed 5,000km with my REX. Over the past 1,000km, I've noticed the appearance of a rhythmic resonant noise between 40-70 kph. The dealer says all i3s do this, and it comes from the tires. I admit the noise sounds (somewhat) like an unbalanced tire, but it also sounds to me like it comes...
