    No more i3

Interesting to hear other perspectives. In many ways it's a great car, especially for local errands, running kids to sports clubs at weekends etc. The "issues" are niggles really although I do hope they sort out the over-sensitive high speed steering, which seems to bother some of us. Can't ever...

    No more i3

My i3 Rex is a company car on a 3 year lease. I've had it for 2 years but with the sale of my employer I am being made redundant in 4 weeks time and the i3 has to go back. I have mixed feelings. I have enjoyed the economy and acceleration and my kids aged 7 and 9 seemed to love the car from day...

    New steering wheel needed

Bit patronising, but nope. I had the tyre pressures set correctly and had tried different variations. Tyre pressures made a slight difference to stability but this is more than that.

    New steering wheel needed

Finally got my i3 back. Dashboard squeeks all sorted, runs very quietly now. I also have a new steering wheel. Here is the odd thing - I used to find my steering too sensitive at motorway speeds and the car felt literally dangerous. My wife fully agreed with me and refused to drive it on a...

    New steering wheel needed

Well at least BMW are looking after me while I wait for the i3. They provided me with a 320d M Sport estate automatic with every option, literally straight out of the factory (delivery miles on it only). A good car while I wait. Not as much fun as the Mini but a lot more luxurious. Shame about...

    New steering wheel needed

My i3 has been in the garage for a week while they investigate the drivetrain error message and relentless squeaks and rattles from my dashboard. BMW just called to tell me that "a number of parts need to be replaced including a new steering wheel". This apparently means quite a long delay as...

How many have had the drive train malfunction error?

Really? It's not that hard to achieve. Switch off aircon, turn your fan down to 1 bar, put it in Ecopro+, drive a quiet route accelerating gently and only using regen braking. I have an 18 mile country B road option to work which is a mix of 30mph and 50 mph limits where 100% efficiency on the...

How many have had the drive train malfunction error?

Perhaps it wasn't the KLE then. All I can tell you is that with a 100% efficient driving score the maximum range we were getting was 60 miles, or around 48-50 miles for normal driving. BMW replaced something and had it in for over a week. They described it as a recall. My range has now increased...

How many have had the drive train malfunction error?

Having had the message a couple of times now I took mine into BMW yesterday. Like others they say it needs a new HV cable, which they can't source until Monday. They said there is also a software upgrade required. I am also getting them to strip down and rebuild properly my entire dashboard as...

    Impressions one year on

Well it's going in for a maintenance check next week as I have the dreaded "check drivetrain" message now. I am going to insist that they fix every squeek and rattle at the same time. I believe they will need to dismantle my entire dashboard and rebuild it. It makes a constant chirruping noise...

How many have had the drive train malfunction error?

Did my longest drive today (100 miles each way) and had to use Rex a lot on the way back. Add me to the list, I have the check drivetrain message sitting on my dash. I can continue using the car but need it checked "soon" apparently.

    Impressions one year on

It's not unreasonable for people to challenge whether I had a test drive. I did have a couple of hours test driving but they only had a fairly highly specified model with leather seats etc. and the stint on the motorway was not ideal as there was a slow moving traffic jam on the M3 (not...

    Impressions one year on

I guess seats and comfort are personal preference. This i3 replaced a 330d M Sport which had a very harsh ride but the seats were comfortable. The i3 seems to combine that harsh ride with hard seats which personally I find too much. It's particularly noticable after driving the luxurious comfort...

    Impressions one year on

Hi thanks for the replies. I do have a 7KW charger at home so no issue there. When I first got my i3 it struggled to give me 60 mile electric range. It went in for a fix and now gives 70 if its warm. My scores for regen braking are top end of the group on the app, I barely touch the brake pedal...

    Impressions one year on

I have had my i3 Rex for about a year now (although only around 7,000 miles covered) and thought I would post my thoughts: The Positives: - Its proved extremely cheap to run as a daily commuter (around 40 miles a day). - My workplace has fitted a fast charger which has proved great for me as one...

    Stuck charging cable

Yes the station locks the cable in when its charging to stop theft. Turns out this mechanism is broken. The station has been dismantled and my cable is free.

    Stuck charging cable

Its not stuck in the car, its stuck in a wall charging unit. The car end has no problem - unlocked and unplugged as per normal. I have had to leave the cable stuck in the wall unit at work until we can work out how to get the unit to release it.

    Stuck charging cable

A bit of a weird one. I couldn't retrieve my charging cable from our charge station at work tonight. Its not a sophisticated pay station, just a free station with a couple of sockets. Our maintenance guy tried to help me but it is locked solid. I had to leave the cable at work attached to the...

    Disappointed with range

Not sure what they did but it was a "major" job. Its a company car so I dont get to see the paperwork. Happily its fixed my issues. Just drove home 18 miles after fully charging at work and it used only 15% of my battery compared with about 30% before the fix. For the first time since I bought...

    Disappointed with range

Just to follow up. My i3 went to the garage for testing over the last few days. They just called me to say that it did have an issue and they have replaced a component responsible for power management. Apparently it took a lot of hours and a £1,000 component so the guy said its a good job it was...
