1:43 model now in stock at UK dealers

Got an email from my efficient parts guy today, picked it up this evening, same colour, same wheels, but different interior to my 1:1 scale version. Wrong hand drive too :)

Drivetrain issue - "Do not switch off engine"

...or you could be stuck. I had this yesterday, drove straight to the dealer, and after turning it off & on again it was fine. Nevertheless they've had it in overnight to do diagnostics and after consulting with BMW UK say it's a software problem, so everything's been reinstalled today. They've...

i3 comes 2nd in European Car of the Year

Beats the Tesla, just, but is beaten to 1st place by that innovative, unusual, cutting-edge hatchback that is the....Peugeot 308 :o Beaten soundly too: http://www.caroftheyear.org/media/news/Car/of/the/Year/2014/A/clear/win/of/Peugeot/308/20140303_84/coty.

Good luck to all the new UK owners Saturday 1st March!

I think there are a few people on here taking delivery tomorrow, so this is just to say sleep well if you can, and have fun in the morning! And post up pics! Quick lesson for non-UK people :) In the UK, we have numberplates that show the age of the car, and these change twice a year, tomorrow...

My i3's Active Cruise Control in action

Not terribly exciting, but maybe interesting for those who are wondering whether to get the option. I do stay in the driving seat at all times in this one :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTXHb9LXL2M

My i3's Parking Assist in action - with a slight twist

For your amusement: http://youtu.be/PULw7-f0hzA Don't flame me for being reckless, it was all on private land with my own cars! Excuse the shaky camera though.

Suicide doors not registering as closed

Unless I slam the suicide doors, they come up on the dash as being open, even though they're definitely shut properly & securely latched behind the front doors. It generally happens as you go round corners - I guess a switch isn't being fully depressed somewhere. Dealer's looking into that one.

Slight clonk soon after turning on

Anyone else have this? You turn on the car with the start/stop, and maybe 10 seconds later, whether you've pulled away or are still stationary, a "clonk" goes through the car, like some big relay has activated underneath. I haven't mentioned that one to the dealer yet.

Parking Assist & Driving Assist not happy

Thought I'd christen this new area of the forum, thanks Tom :) So, PA & DA work incredibly well, when they work, but I've had an intermittent problem pretty much from day 1. The active cruise control is the most noticeable as I use it the most often, but maybe one in five times I use it, it'll...

    Some internal lighting pics

When you first unlock, the interior light (usually white) glows blue, like so: As it is normally: The blue gives this cool effect: As seen from the inside (I had to lock myself in while holding the keys out of the window, then unlock :) ) Compared to the usual white: Then there's the...

i3 vs M3 race - this time for real

Well, kind of :) Having had my i3 for a week now, I can see it's a nippy thing that takes off from a standstill really well. But I still wasn't sure whether this famous video http://youtu.be/PO5z32L32aY at Brands Hatch was completely right, so I've been waiting for decent weather to get my M3...

    1st UK delivery!

Well, I got my BEV last Saturday, and it's fantastic! I was told I was the first customer delivery in the country, and as no-one else has come on here to say different, maybe that's right. I've had a great few days in it already, including an interesting adventure up to the Ace Cafe in north...

    Garage door opener

I've seen a couple of mentions on Tom's blog that this is available in the US, but I can't see any mention of it in the UK brochure. It's too late now as my car's on its way :D but I'm curious - anyone know about this? ETA sorry Tom, should be in the "Buying" section - feel free to move.

Wheels - same both sides, or handed?

Something just struck me - in all the pictures I've seen, the 428-style wheels are spiralled as though the i3 is 4WD & the torque of the drivetrain has spun the slightly-molten wheels (!) while the tyres stay put, but that means they're different side to side. Compare: with: Whereas the 429...

    Pistonheads i3 review

Generally positive: "It's hard to come away from the i3 and not be rather amazed at what has been achieved." Review here.
