    Collision warning failure

My wife (our i3's primary driver) has told me that twice the collision warning feature has been disabled due a fault when she started the car. Both times the i3 had been parked outside on a hot sunny day. Has anyone else had this happen? Ours is a 2015, built in May.

    i3 Survives Hail Storm

While driving my i3 yesterday I was caught in a hail storm. It wasn't the worst hail storm I've seen, but it was the worst I've ever driven in, with hail up to 1/3 inch diameter and lasting for about 20 minutes. The only shelter I could find was to pull nose-first under the downwind side of a...

    Radio preset names

We finally got our i3 last night! It will be my wife's car, and since I'm the "technical" one in the family (even though she has a PhD in biology) I was setting it up for her, including programming her favorite stations as radio presets. The car has professional navigation and should have...

Charge/ePower display with Rex running, and Rex not stopping

When the Rex is running, does the current coming from the Rex affect the indicator on the Charge/ePower display directly in front of the driver? We had an i3 Rex for 24 hours for an extended test drive and I intentionally ran the battery down so that the Rex was engaged while I drove on I-25...

    USA Destination & Handling increase

I just looked at the BMW USA Build Your Own i3 page and noticed that the Destination & Handling fee has increased from $925 to $950. Does anyone know how ofter that changes?

    Make the sun visor extenable

The sun visor is not long enough to reach to the back of the side window when rotated to the side. This provides inadequate sun shade for tall drivers heading south in the morning or north in the evening. Add an extension to the visor or let the visor slide back on a rod.

Is the rear view camera worthwhile?

We test-drove an i3 yesterday. My wife found the rear visibility limited and thought a rear view camera would help. The car we were driving did not have that option so we couldn't test. Do those of you who have the rear view camera find it worthwhile? We would probably stick with the business...

    US Alternate Mobility Program Details?

Does anyone know any details about BMW USA's "Alternate Mobility Program"? BMW UK offers BMW Access giving you up to 7 days of free rental per year as part of a package starting at 40 pounds/month. This may be a nice discount over the normal cost of renting a BMW, but I'm interested in the i3...

    Lightning and the i3

Being in a car during a lightning storm is fairly safe because if lightning strikes the car the electric charge will travel on the surface of the metal car body (the skin effect). What about the i3 with its carbon fiber reinforced plastic body? Does the carbon fiber conduct electricity?

In U.S. have REx activation take topography into account

In the U.S. it will not be possible to force the range extender to engage, in order to comply with California Air Resources Board requirements, even on models sold outside of California. This makes the car less useful in mountainous terrain as the REx doesn't produce enough power for fast...
