Why Tesla is going to dominate for the next 5yrs

Over on the Bolt EV subforum of the Chevy Volt site I posted the message below. Although superchargers change the assumptions somewhat, they are still nowhere near as flexible as a range extender for much of the country, so this still applies: Post: So per InsideEvs, the 2017 BMW i3 will go...

Seriously starting to dislike the i3-please skip if disagree

With the i3, the issue seems to be all the general tossing about. I think both the rebound and compression settings for the shocks are simply off. Our test car had the 20s, but larger rims are typically paired with lower profile tires. I've found this generally affects impact harshness more...

Seriously starting to dislike the i3-please skip if disagree

We did a three day test drive in the i3 and agree with the OP's assessment of the ride quality. We've owned an E39 M5, 530i, and still own an E36 M3. BMW, quite simply, got the suspension tuning wrong. This isn't the first time either. The E90 3 series was introduced with runflats and it...

Advice from current i3 owners who owned a Nissan Leaf

While I really like the i3 rex (note: not an owner), and am still considering it as a replacement to our Volt (lease is up in a month), I have decided to hold off on getting a replacement until I have had an opportunity to try out the gen 2.0 Volt which is progressively becoming more compelling...

    Electric Cars Value Tumble (WSJ)

I have a loaded 2012 Volt (MSRP was just over $45K)...now 32 months old with about 31K miles. A local Chevy dealer has my EXACT car (same color, options, 30k miles, everything) for $19,577 AND it is a certified pre-owned with a 12mo/12k warranty. Essentially, a "max price" scenario (i.e...

How does your i3 Lease compare to my Volt lease

One of the challenging aspects of cross-shopping EVs these days is that some manufacturers really seem to be subsidizing the leases while others don't or don't as much. It can sort of skew what is a "good deal" relative to other EVs. Anyway, we all know the early i3 purchases leases were...

My Owner's Choice deal in Houston, TX

Thanks Ryan. Nice to see info from a fellow Texan to get an idea of what dealers are doing here. Of course we are in Dallas so it is a bit different, but probably similar. I have only seen two i3s in the wild here to date. Will be in the market the latter half of this year and the i3 is "on...

Is this a good lease offer? I think so!

Um...what's the MSRP and actual selling price of the car? Does that include tax?

    19" vs 20" tires

The other challenge in the wheels is, as always, the aesthetics and the trim levels (in the U.S. anyway) they are tied to. I'm not a fan of the Mega trim rims, consider the Giga trim tolerable and the Tera pretty decent. The 20's are so expensive, they could justify just stepping up to the...

    3 day test drive review

    Disappointed with range

Temp is a huge variable for EVs. Case in point. My Volt is rated at 35 miles of range. On my best day with mild temps, slow, steady speeds, no A/C or heat, I got 52 miles. On a cold day (about 32F) at freeway speeds I got 26 miles and folks in really cold temps see numbers below 20 miles of...

i3 BEV vs. REx from owner of both

waffle - have you noticed and difference in the ride quality between the rex and non-rex? I'm wondering if the Rex's additional weight makes the ride any better or worse? I know you can't exactly do back to back test drives.

i3 BEV vs. REx from owner of both

As an aside, I posted some of the Car and Driver i3 vs. B Class Electric (in this month's C&D...won;t be online until next month) stats on the Volt forum: http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?130466-Car-and-Driver-BMW-i3-vs.-Mercedes-B-Class-Electric...0-60-stats-etc&p=1800314#post1800314...

i3 BEV vs. REx from owner of both

Waffle, your comment about the acceleration is interesting since I've been wondering just how different the two are. Truth be told, the acceleration of the i3 is one of the primary reasons I am considering it as a Volt replacement. Do you feel the difference in acceleration is predominantly in...

Help !!! I am down to Three Choices.I3 REX; Volt, MB-B

We own a Volt now and I am considering the i3 when our lease is up, but...the Volt is insanely cheap compared to the i3...We could literally lease two for the price of one i3 (including the owners choice with flex option). I honestly will have to just close my eyes and blatantly ignore that in...

REx test driveI recently test drove the i3. My main interest

Ironically, you may have the opposite problem. With the Volt it wasn't uncommon to show up at the dealer and find Volts w/o a charge.

Does your i3 inspire you to drive it like a hot hatch?

interesting, I wonder if the car mags will find the 0-60 times to be better than BMW's advertised numbers by a decent margin...not uncommon for BMWs.

Volt Owner Review of BMW i3

No problem. It's pretty rare you get the opportunity to test things in like conditions back-to-back like this so I was happy to take advantage of it!

Volt Owner Review of BMW i3

Does your i3 inspire you to drive it like a hot hatch?

I really wonder how the heavier rEx compares. Sadly, it splits the difference in 0-60 times with my Volt, and becomes a bit less compelling on the performance front (keep in mind the Volt may be heavy, but it does have 270+ lbs ft of torque - considerably more than the i3). I anxiously await...
