how to allow i app to access your phones contacts?

Does anyone know how to allow the i app access to my phones contacts? I am running IOS 6.

The app says it has no access and there seems no way to grant access to any apps on the privacy settings page?

Any thoughts?

First, upgrade to iOS 7, or 8 next week.

On checking it is on ios 7 anyway! Can wait a week in any case.
