Is this the first sighting of Laurus Grey? - First confirmed

BMW-i3-LCV2013.jpg

I don't know but I'd be surprised if it was just because Laurus is shown as a fair bit brighter than Arravani on the configurator.

I just think the photographer has struggled there. Quickly loading it into Lightroom and doing 'auto whitebalance' and 'auto tonecontrol' gives this

I've just found a piece of information that leads me to believe it is Laurus Grey ..... and I rather like it.

BIG PLUS ......its right hand drive ....... and it looks like they have converted the windscreen wipers to wipe the drivers side first!

Well the good thing is it's apparently easy to change your order right up until the build date so changing colour spec is something I'd definitely consider if Laurus looks better. Take your camera to Frankfurt ;-)

Good news on the wipers! What piece of information did you find that leads you to believe it's Laurus Grey? I think thats Arravani...

From the photo it looks like both wipers may sweep from the centre outwards which I think is fairly common on smaller cars. Not sure if that description makes sense but it would answer Parkers' concern.

We will see very soon; cars are doing road shows at dealers from next week!

Yes, I think they call it "Hand Clap" wipers, the trouble is even with those there is a priority sweep (i.e. the first side to go) .... and in unconverted RHD cars you go past a lorry and as the spray hits the auto wipers kick in and the passenger side get the initial wipe, also which ever side gets the first swipe the other side (from my experience) gets an arc of water residue and spray - which in RHD cars is right in the line of sight of the driver.

As I've mentioned elsewhere Honda have had hand clap wipers on Civics for 2 generations and they have always changed the first wipe priority between left and right hand drive cars... TBH IMV it is a safety issue, fractions of second do matter when you are travelling at 70+ mph .... so does a clear undisrupted view ahead.

So I am extremely relieved that BMW have done the right thing and given us RHD drivers a proper conversion and given the driver the priority sweep.

I asked a dealer what colour it was and their answer was 'they'd say it was Arravani'. Not the most convincing of answers :)

Could have saved weight with 1 wiper instead of 3 ! (2 ft, 1 rear) - Audi A2 is fine with just one and costs less to replace!

Great pictures, Great find!

I think the car looks great in this colour whatever it is!

The thing is it doesn't look like a flat colour to me. It may be the lights reflecting etc but it I think its metallic.

Re one wiper they can be a good solution if the windscreen is the right shape, I have a feeling the i3 windscreen is too tall to make one wiper work. Also single wipers usually have very complex gears to make them sweep the largest area possible. I know with a C Class I once had it was an area of venerability. I'm glad (from a reliability point of view) the i3 has 2 conventional wipers.

At the risk of starting to sound slightly obsessed with different shades of grey :? ... If we now think that the LCV UK car is Laurus (as confirmed by a couple of BMW dealers) then could this pic from Frankfurt be Arravani ?

It does look non-metallic ?

It wouldn't be my first choice.........

The good news is it has a "standard" interior so we'll finally get to see what that is like.

Shame there's no Model T Ford option! Would look good in all black pearl effect!

Maybe BMW save money by insisting on the black bonnet/roof!

Most 2- wiper mechanisms share links to synchronise their action so if there's a problem it affects both blades. Rear of i3 would look cleaner with no rear wiper (which looks about 10" long) or maybe they could have invented a different cleaning mechanism like a curtain wipe!
