Looking to buy an i3 REX

Hey, I'm looking to buy an i3 REX. (I'm thinking of 2014 model, liking that it actually has a plug for changing transaxle oil.)

When inspecting/test-driving, is there a way to force the REX engine to come on to assess operation?

FYI, I found a couple videos showing how to force it into "emissions mode". E.g.

I guess the only issue left is conflict between: wanting to test at full charge to see the battery's range; and <75% charge to run the REX in emissions mode (US version anyway). I guess start full and do a long enough test drive to use >25% of the battery!
