So just turned in our Ford Focus EV 6.6KWH for a new i3REx. Brought it home plugged it into my trusty Leviton 32 http://www.homecontrols.com/homecontrols/products/pdfs/LV-Leviton/LVEVB32xML_User_Guide.pdf and I get an instant fault. Car reports not enough power from Grid. Never had a problem with the Ford. Changed settings from high to low for level 2 charger and same deal. Reset the charger a number of times but still no go.

Portable charger no problem.

I don't know where to start! Could this be a charger issue even though it worked no problem for 3 years and charged my wife Ford just this morning or is there an issue with the car?

Several people on the FB group have had issues with older Leviton units and the i3 - you'll likely need to have the unit replaced by Leviton.

There's a current thread with some good suggestions on the Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3/permalink/906309199442942/

FWIW, the 'final' standard on the J1773 charging wasn't resolved until somewhere near the end of 2013. This is one reason why BMW didn't offer the i3 to the USA until spring 2014. Older EVSE units may or may not abide by the latest specs, and as a result, might give unreliable results.
