I had the infamous software upgrade last August on my April '14 BEV and this detuned the KLE to c 5kW max charge rate, as expected.
I'd also read that a new KLE is available, a couple of months ago I think, but having heard nothing from BMW I just took the car to my dealer. The genius there took my key and read it into her magic machine, which told her that my car is indeed due for the "quality enhancement" (what BMW euphemistically call a recall it seems) KLE replacement. The car is now booked in for 2 days in early March to have this and associated software change.
If you have an early-ish car it may be worth taking it/the key to your dealer because if my experience is anything to go by, BMW are not exactly shouting about this.
Aside from this,in practice, fairly minor niggle, I've had almost 17,000 very enjoyable and cheap miles!
