Engine Mount Bolt Shear Failure - info urgently required...

Hi I've had an i3 in the UK from new in 2014 until I got rid of it a couple of weeks ago. There has been no engine mount bolt recall in the UK. I wondered why not when I read about the US recall - but it definitely didn't happen her.

DriveTrain Error and loss of power whilst over taking

We had this problem a couple of weeks ago on a crowded motorway in poor visibility. My wife got a "Drivetrain - not possible to continue .." message and the drive immediately shifted into "N". Fortunately she managed to coast through two lanes of trucks, in driving rain, onto the hard shoulder...

    heavy fan noise while charging

BMW technician just visited and confirmed several faults relating to the air conditioning system so it's going back to the service workshop. Apparently one fault showed high coolant pressure of 127bar - which seems extraordinarily high to me. I didn't realise that the cabin aircon & battery...

    heavy fan noise while charging

I have had exactly the same symptoms on our 2014 REx. Noticed, on a cold night (for UK: about -2C) ,two weeks ago fan noise while charging - loud enough to alarm the neighbours and be heard outside the garage 30m away. At first I though it was just conditioning the battery for a cold charge...

Taken delivery of my BMW i3 94ah

Looks nice! We're just teetering on the brink of trading in our early 2014 REx for the bigger battery - even though the miles are under 10k. I'd love to hear your experience of real-world range when you've done a few miles.

i3 removed not on BMW UK site

Could be. It was there a couple of days ago when I ordered a new brochure - thinking of trading in my 2014 REx for one with the new battery. Sadly, when the brochure arrived this morning - it was the old 18.8 kWh version. Pretty uncoordinated marketing really - since my interest was...

BMW Genius here! What is your i3 motoring advice?

I doubt if it would take paint - I'm wondering about wrapping mine in dark brown vinyl to match the trim. If it's made from hash - I suspect the designer may have inhaled some before deciding to put it directly under the screen :-)

BMW Genius here! What is your i3 motoring advice?

I've only ever used the supplied separate charging module for the 2 yrs+ I've owns the car. No one ever described it to me as "occasional use only" and it charges overnight from a UK 13a mains socket just fine in around 8/10 hrs. Dealer recently supplied a new one because the weatherproofing...

How many have had the drive train malfunction error?

After having a single spurious "Drivetrain - do not switch off - you will be unable to restart" warning a couple of weeks ago (reported on another thread), I've done another couple of 100 miles - but now I'm getting "Drivetrain - check soon" alerts every single time I switch on, even on pure...

Is it safe to ignore "Drivetrain - Do not switch off engine"

I've had a few of the common "Drivetrain - you may carry on driving" messages over the 18 months I've had the car - usually after around 100 miles RExing. They've always disappeared without any problems. This weekend I had my first "Drivetrain - Do not switch off engine - you cannot restart …...

    Cold weather tyre pressure warning

Yes, I understand that - but I've had a lot of cars in my life and never seen the pressures drop at exactly the same rate in all four wheels.

    Cold weather tyre pressure warning

I got a tyre pressure warning today and checked them. Oddly - they were all down by exactly 0.5bar 1.8/1.8 2.3/2.3 Since it's the coldest day of the winter in UK today at around 3degC - I'm wondering if this is just a temperature effect rather than leakage. Anybody else seen this at...

Eucalyptus wood dash seems to have faded

Mine's the same - it has't darkened but, likeGuy's, faded lighter where the sun hits it through the screen. I don't think it will even out - as the part in shade will never have equal UV exposure. We'll be left with a clear demarcation line - which frankly looks a bit tacky in a new car.

Why does cabin get so hot when preconditioning?

I've started preconditioning, now that the mornings are getting chillier. I don't like charging every night, when the car hasn't been used much, so I sometimes let it precondition from the battery - but when I get in the interior temperature is like a Turkish bath. It seems that the...

    Free gift from BMW UK

The book is bizarre; mainly empty, white pages - apparently to record your feelings about the car. The workings of the German mind are a bit obscure to me.
