    Traction battery warranty

My i3 is reporting only 14Kwh capacity and the range has diminished considerably since it was new in 1994. Does anyone know at what point the warranty will consider replacing the battery? To check capacity follow the YouTube youtu.be/tw5i1Ki-RpY Jeff

    Solar charging

The problem with batteries for storing solar power is the cost. If there were some way to use the DC from the panels directly that would be the least expensive. No way to avoid the cost of the panels ( about $2000 to make enough power to charge the car for several hours at peak sunlight ) but...

    Solar charging

I have a solar panel array on my roof and generate enough power for the house but not quite enough for the house and the i3. I would like to expand the roof array just a little to cover the car completely but if I do so my utility will consider it a new installation and I will lose my...

    High jacked

I read an excellent write up on experiences living with a Leaf for a week and I offered the author the loan of my i3 for a week to compare the two. Brian did an interesting review, see it at: crazedkeebler.wordpress.com This raised a disturbing security issue for me. Brian tried to add...

    Hand Control?

I thought about doing it electrically but considered the risks too great. You would have to be very sure that no failure mode could cause unintended accereration or loss of power. Adding to existing circuitry would certainly void some warranty coverages too. I think I now have a promising...

    Hand Control?

Looking for a hand control for the gas pedal. (GAS?? You know, the go faster pedal on the right) Long story, but I am recovering from some leg problems and have not yet driven the i3 I purchased last June. Wife has put three thousand miles on it.

    LED high beams

I paid for LED headlights, the owners manual says I have them but the main beams are actually incandescent bulbs. True that a pair of LED bulbs were less than $65, but why was BMW too cheap to use them while at the same time misleading customers to expect them?

    REX Gastank

You can thank California. CARB leglislated a class of vehicle called BEVx, an extended range battery electric vehicle. A BEVx is advanteious to the owner (who can now use the restricted lane on the Interstate), and to the car manufacturer who gets credit for selling an electric car. One of...

    EVSE Location Opinions

I suggest running the cord down the middle, but suspend it from the ceiling so it does not get underfoot. This also gives you the freedom to put the EVSE on any wall. Watch out for the cord length though, they tend to be on the short side!

    LA auto show driving times

Yiiikes, Something tells me you may not (yet) be driving an EV. Like you I was very pleased when my ICE cars made "miles to empty" information available, but since I got a Nissan Leaf eighteen months ago I have been continually bothered by the lack of a simple numeric "gas gauge" SOC display...

    Dash Cam

Given that there are already cameras looking to the front of the vehicle, why not add a slot for an SD card and have the camera also act as a dash cam? Cost would be minimal and easily covered by a small upgrade to the cost of the Driver assist package. This would be a first I believe.

    NCAP rating

Coachen, Would you really prefer to trust some electronic gizmo to detect that kid behind your car or your eyes on a screen with a picture?

    Regeneration and one-pedal driving

Just guessing here - since BMW only makes 18KWh available from the batteries 22KWh, then 100% as you see it is not actually a full charge of the battery. Hopefully, any regen when you consider the battery fully charged can be absorbed within the BMW designed safety buffer. Look forward to...
