Came out to the garage yesterday morning and the "Charging Fault" light was flashing on the Cripple Creek charger. Normally the car charges during cheaper overnight rates. The car was only partially charged if at all.

Tried the 120V charger that comes with the car. Same problem - "Charging Fault" light came on. So I do nto think it's the charger.

I took the car to the dealer and they immediately said they had to keep the car until next week, at least. This was Jan 2nd, and they said their specialist would not be in until next week. Then I was told it would be until at least Wednesday. 3 days?

Bought the car (that had only just arrived at the dealer) on November 4, 2014. It is an i3 with DC FastCharge, NOT REx.

Has anyone seen this issue? Is this a KLE issue?

Now I have a silly 320 loaner.

Depending on the production date of the vehicle, it may or may not have had the new KLE in it, but it should have had the software designed to protect the original KLE. From what I know (and that may not be much!), it does sound like a KLE issue. If so, once ordered, it should show up overnight, then it needs new software as well to make things all work properly, and that can take a few hours.

Was the check engine light on or is the only indication you are getting is from the Chargers. It sounds like a KLE issue but there are other things that can prevent charging. I am curious of the outcome. Please keep us updated.

Thanks for the replies.

No alerts in the car. But two different chargers set their own "Charge Fault" alarms of the charger.

The car is in the hands of the dealer now, so I'll keep posting updates as I receive them.

At 1500 miles on the clock, I guess it was having problems weaning itself from the momma BMW shop.

The plot thickens.

KLE + software replaced.

The car still refuses to take a charge - across multiple chargers.

The dealer is now replacing the EME - an engine control module, I am told. I am also told that replacing the EME involves removing the drive motor.

It is now Jan 17. The car has been in since Jan 2nd. At least I have a gas-sipping 320i loaner.

Has anyone heard of problems with EME?

I have seen one problem with an EME. It was causing the AC to stay on all the time. The EME is mounted on top of the electric motor. The whole drive assembly comes out the bottom of the car on a table. There are then 3 large wires for high voltage and a couple smaller connectors for the electric motor position sensor. If it's the tech's first time doing the job it will take him about a day without programming. The EME is available for next day shipping to a dealer depending on where they are but they are in stock in the US.
