Do you need Internet option for app control

Hi just ordered my i3 with cold weather cabin prep. Do you need the Internet option to control the cabin heating from the app or does it work without it?

Totally new to BMW and new to buying a new car but I think the answer is no. The internet option just gives the onboard media system the ability to surf the web. I believe the remote control functionality works with a standard car and uses a SIM built into the car's coms/nav/media capability. But I'm more than happy to be corrected.

I've asked a couple of dealers this and haven't got a definitive answer yet. I guess it will be the same as the rest of their range?
